Easley boys hold off Wren, 66-61

PIEDMONT—After a spirited start by Wren, the Easley High School boys basketball team made a second half comeback to defeat the Hurricanes 66-61 Friday night.

Wren held a 20-15 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Green Wave chipped two points off the lead by halftime, trailing 37-33 at the break.

The game was tied 46-46 after three periods, and Easley took control in the fourth quarter to earn the win.

Wren played a physical brand of defense, sending the Green Wave to the free throw line 33 times in the game. But Easley responded well sinking 30 of 33 shots for 91 percent.

Spencer Collins led the Green Wave with 33 points, including hitting 15 of 16 from the foul line. Collins also sank four three-point shots.

Joel Cook was a perfect 10 for 10 from the foul line, scoring 16 points in the game.

Others scoring for Easley were Joe Graver 6, McKenzie Blandon 5, Tim Pickel 3, Troy McGowens 2 and Trevin Franklin 1.

Austin Anderson led Wren with 28 points, including three 3-point shots. Demetrius Babb added 20, also hitting three 3-pointers. Dustin Wright scored 12, making two three-pointers. Others scoring for the Hurricanes were Sloan Lindsay 4, Sergio Richey 3 and Sidney Rhodes 2.

Easley finished the first half of its Region 1-AAAA schedule with a 4-1 conference record. The Green Wave will begin the second half of its region schedule Friday, hosting Laurens.

The Hurricanes are 10-8 overall and 1-4 in the region. Wren plays at Hanna Friday night.
