WREN — The Wren High School Hurricanes were unable to overcome a 13-0 first quarter run by the Hillcrest Rams Tuesday, losing 65-54 to a team that ranked as one of the top in the state.

Hurricanes point guard Austin Anderson led the Hurricanes with 19 points, which included three 3-pointers. Senior Demetrius Babb added 18.

Anderson’s 3-pointer at the end of the first quarter gave the Hurricanes their last lead of the game at 17-16.

Hillcrest’s Tobias Pinson’s basket sparked a 13-0 run, and the Hurricanes wouldn’t score for the next four minutes of play. Wren stayed within striking distance for the rest of the game, but never came within six. The Hurricanes trailed 33-27 at halftime.

They trailed 54-42 in the second half, and the Rams never led by less than 9 points in the final quarter.

Pinson led the Rams with 19 points, and Dondray Walker added 16.

The Hurricanes’ record falls to 4-2, while the Rams are 5-0. Wren hosts Seneca on Friday. The girls play at 6 p.m., and the boys play at 7:30 p.m.
