Wren quarterback Austin McCaskill continued to throw the ball well, passing 17-26 for a total of 341 yards. But his two turnovers made the Hurricanes’ comeback more difficult, as they tried to dig themselves out of a 28-13 halftime deficit.
Last year, BHP beat the Hurricanes 35-14.
Wren Coach Jeff Tate predicted before the game that BHP would be a formidable opponent, possibly the toughest match of the season.
“Belton’s one of the better teams we’ll face this season,” Tate said. “They’re very athletic, they’re well coached, they’re sound on what they do on both sides of the ball. … It’s going to be tough.”
The Hurricanes face Easley High School on Friday. Easley broke its 22-game losing streak on Friday with a 31-7 win against Eastside High School.
Last year, the Hurricanes won only three games, two of which were against Easley.
Meanwhile, Palmetto High School fell to 1-3 after losing to Pendleton High School 28-6.
The Mustangs continued to struggle passing the ball, gaining no yards in passing while Pendleton had 128 yards passing.
The Mustangs have only passed for 32 yards in four games.
Mustangs’ runningback Jovan Owens scored the only touchdown for Palmetto.
It was Owens’ second touchdown of the season and the Mustangs’ sixth.
Palmetto faces Chesnee High School on Saturday, Oct. 1.
