EASLEY—Guam kept is hopes of making it to the semi-final round of the Big League World Series by topping Germany 5-2 Saturday morning on Field One of the J.B. “Red” Owens Recreation Complex.

Brandon Rosario pitched 6 and two-thirds innings to pick up the win for Guam. Dominick Dunford pitched a complete game for the loss for Germany.

Guam picked up all five of its runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Shon Muna reached base on a error, then advanced to third on Jathen Barnes’ double. Branden Fernandez then doubled, sending both runners home. Donavan George then hit a two-run homer to give Guam a 4-0 lead.

Joseph Salas singled, then advanced to second on a ground out. Mark Paulino came in to pinch run for Salas. Paulino advanced to third on a balk, then scored on an error, giving Guam its 5-0 lead.

In the top of the fourth, Germany scored its two runs. Sasha Brockmeyer singled, then advanced to second on an error. Konny Stengler hit a single sending Brockmeyer to third.

After Stengler stole second base, Rene Wolf was intentionally walked to load the bases. A single by Matthias Schmidt drove in Brockmeyer and Stengler for Germany’s only two runs.

Germany had runners on first and second with two outs in the seventh inning, but Branden Fernandez came in to pitch and got a strike-out to end the game.

Guam moved to 1-1, with a game against the Dominican Republic coming up Sunday.

Germany dropped to 0-3, with its final game in the 2009 Big League World Series coming up against Mexico Sunday afternoon.
