Concrete Primary students study and perform American folk songs

The 2nd grade students of Concrete Primary School recently presented American Folk Music and Recitations, a compilation of American folk songs and poems from the country roads and hills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. They also performed orchestrated versions of three of the songs, “Old Woman and the Pig,” “On Top of Old Smoky,” and “The Sow Took the Measles.” In preparation for the program, they studied the oral tradition in folk music and the fact that some songs originally came to America with immigrants.
